Tony Tew (Director) and Michael Reed (Director of photography) having already directed 'John Wycliffe The Morning Star' and 'The Hiding Place' team up once again to produce this superb portrayal of the life and times of William Tyndale. It is Roger Rees who lays down on film the incredible strivings, fears and the passion for Christ that William Tyndale possessed. There doesn't seem to be a dull moment in this film for anyone interested in the life of this man. In fact, my first knowledge and understanding of Tyndale came through watching this film. Everything is well done. The settings, scenes and portrayals of the various characters are pleasing to behold. You will see how Tyndale was constantly on the move to evade capture and during his evasions managed somehow to translate, revise and design the whole Bible in handwritten form into English, so that even the 'boy that drove the plough' could understand it - an act which in that day carried the death penalty. The only downside to the film is that it cannot show to the fullest extent the periods of loneliness through which Tyndale passed. However, it does show his unwillingness to flinch back from martyrdom.
