Territorial Spirits and World Evangelisation

In recent years a completely different approach to evangelism has been suggested - one where it is said that you have to bind territorial evil spirits before the gospel has the chance to be successful. What are the roots of this approach, is it a valid means of evangelism and how does it differ from placating the spirits in pagan religions?

Chuck Lowe, a former student at Oral Roberts University, looks at the phenomenon from three areas. Firstly he considers the biblical evidence, secondly he looks at history of spiritual warfare and the church's historical position and thirdly the missiological response to territorial spirits, especially in relation to animism. Lowe also considers what the Christian response to the presence of evil should be, and a biblical strategy for evangelism.

There are also a case studies on South America, which advocates of territorial spirits maintain proves the success of these methods, and the work of J.O. Fraser, who developed a strategy for dealing with the presence of evil in mission situations.
